The Western Cape High Court ordered the City of Cape Town, its Law Enforcement department and the Ndabeni Communal Property Trust to restore Gate 7 residents’ peaceful possession of the Wingfield Camp property in Maitland. Residents may rebuild the structures demolished between 23 and 25 October, including shacks and tents. The court barred further evictions unless the respondents first obtain a court order. Represented by the Ndifuna Ukwazi Law Centre, residents sought a spoliation order after some families were left without shelter for a week.
