Neville warns managers can need sacking ‘for their own good’ as Carrick fights on

Gary Neville says managers sometimes need to be sacked “for their own good” as Manchester United keeps Michael Carrick in charge despite an eight-game winless run. A 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth left United one point above the relegation zone, with just two wins in 12 matches in all competitions this season. Neville believes the club’s hierarchy lacks planning and viable replacement options; Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have been mentioned as possible successors. He also urged majority owners the Glazer family to sell, citing the club’s £1.2 billion debt.
