SA fans, clubs and stakeholders face major blow as Safa rules out VAR rollout for 2026/27 season

Safa head of referees Abdul Ebrahim announced that VAR will not be deployed for the 2026/27 season, as additional training is needed and has not yet started. Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie had transferred funds to Safa for VAR, which were placed in a ring-fenced account. Ebrahim stated that a project team is awaiting approval from the National Executive Committee on a proposal.
