Congolese biometric passports: Semlex referred to the correctional court in Brussels

The Brussels Council Chamber decided to refer 14 defendants, including the Belgian company Semlex, to the correctional court for alleged corruption, money laundering, and tax fraud related to the production of Congolese biometric passports between 2015 and 2025. The malpractices are said to have generated nearly 60 million USD, with part of the funds funneled to a Dubai-based company linked to former president Joseph Kabila. The plaintiffs, supported by several organizations, hope this trial will clarify the use of their money.
