An important Islamic seminary in Kashmir, Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom, has been declared unlawful by Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The decision is based on a police dossier alleging links between the seminary and the banned political party Jamaat-e-Islami. Seminary chairman Mohammad Shafi Lone has denied the allegations, stating that the institute is law-abiding and that the order has created panic among parents and students.
