Senegal: What Remaining Recourse for Supporters Imprisoned in Morocco After Their Appeal Failed?

Two months after the controversial CAN 2025 final, the 18 Senegalese supporters imprisoned in Morocco had their sentences confirmed on appeal, with no possibility of sentence reduction. Nine of them are serving a one-year prison sentence, while others received six-month and three-month sentences. With ordinary avenues of appeal exhausted, there remains the option of a cassation appeal or a political grace measure for potential early release. Senegal is considering diplomatic efforts to secure a gesture from Moroccan authorities.
