Ousmane Sonko was unanimously reelected president of PASTEF-Les Patriotes on Saturday, June 6, 2026, during the party's first national congress. As the sole candidate, he received 583 votes out of 583 (100% of the vote) with a turnout of over 98%. His reelection comes after his dismissal as Prime Minister by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on May 22, 2026. PASTEF, which holds 130 of the 165 seats in the National Assembly, has a motion of censure that could bring down the government of Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô at any time.
