Sesugh didn't die in our custody, says EFCC

The EFCC denied that Asar Michael Sesugh died in its custody. Sesugh, who had escaped from detention on May 4, 2026 after being arrested for cybercrime, was found dead on May 21 after a gunfight with EFCC operatives in Makurdi. According to the commission, Sesugh and his accomplices opened fire, and operatives returned fire. He fled but was later found in a pool of blood and pronounced dead at the hospital. The Benue State Police are investigating.
