Six ISWAP bomb makers killed in IED explosion in Borno

Six suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were killed in a premature Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in the Marte Local Government Area of Borno State on May 16, 2026. The incident occurred while they were assembling an explosive device, also killing the group's leader, Abu Umar. This explosion could disrupt ISWAP's IED manufacturing operations in the region, which is a known corridor for insurgent movements.
