South Africa: Cape Town Blames Systemic Failures as Violence Persists

The City of Cape Town has denied allegations of being unable to curb crime, attributing the issue to failures in the criminal justice system. For the fiscal year 2026/27, it has allocated a record R6.8 billion to its Safety and Security Directorate. Despite the deployment of the National Defence Force, violence continues on the Cape Flats.
