South Kivu: civil society warns about criminal bushfires in Kalehe

The New Dynamics of civil society in Kalehe territory alerted on Tuesday, July 7, about the resurgence of criminal bushfires in the Mbinga North (Ndinga North) groupement during the dry season. The intentional fires target coffee, quinine, and eucalyptus plantations as well as beekeeping installations, causing economic losses and soil degradation. Coordinator Benjamin Mungazi demands severe sanctions and the involvement of authorities to identify and prosecute the perpetrators. The organization urges farmers to abandon slash-and-burn practices and use cut grass as natural fertilizer.
