At the UN, Rwanda advocates for a political solution to the crisis in eastern DRC and calls for respect of diplomatic commitments

Rwandan Prime Minister Dr Justin Nsengiyumva addressed the security situation in eastern DRC at the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, emphasizing that the conflict is driven by the presence of FDLR, which he accuses of collaborating with the Congolese army and militias supported by DRC. He stated that the roots of the crisis are political, stemming from longstanding grievances, exclusion, and governance failures, and that a political solution is necessary. Kigali supports ongoing diplomatic efforts, including the Washington agreements and the Doha process between Kinshasa and the AFC/M23.
