Paul Mackenzie's Son Says He Was Forced to Fast for a Week at Age 12

Dan Mackenzie, 24, says he suffered abuse in his father preacher Paul Mackenzie's church, including being forced to fast for a week at age 12 and beaten for nearly three hours for resisting the movement's rules. He also said he was stripped during the incident, but did not claim that his father personally carried out the beating. His account follows the conviction of Paul Mackenzie and 28 co-accused on 191 murder counts linked to the Shakahola tragedy, in which 190 children and one adult died. Dan said he felt relieved by the ruling and that five younger siblings had been rescued and were staying at a centre; sentencing is scheduled for November 6, 2026.

Ivorian justice: “Mr. Prosecutor Brama Koné, justice must be the same for everyone, without exception”

Marie Odette Lorougnon, vice-president of Laurent Gbagbo’s PPACI, accuses Côte d’Ivoire’s justice system of treating cases differently and challenges prosecutor Brama Koné on its impartiality. She cites alleged violence against landowners in Kossandji, public statements celebrating the Nahio massacres, and Bob le Mannequin, who she says claimed responsibility for violence against Ivorian citizens. She questions why Bob le Mannequin was not investigated after returning to Abidjan and being received by ruling-party officials, and also refers to statements by the “General Fôgnon” about fighting alongside Alassane Ouattara.

Officers from the Lagos State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit arrested Idris Rasak, 26, also known as Aloss, and Ibrahim Kazeem, 25, also known as Asunmo Kebe, over alleged activities terrorising residents of Addo Road in Ajah. Police said the men reportedly admitted during questioning to belonging to the Eiye Confraternity and led officers to Waterside in the Addo area, where a locally made cut-to-size pistol was recovered. The suspects remain in custody as investigators assess their alleged activities and look for possible associates. Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and urged the public to provide credible information.

Mali: Gunmen kill more than 40 civilians in the northeast

More than 40 civilians, mostly men, were killed over the weekend in attacks on camps in the Ménaka region of northeastern Mali, according to security and local sources cited by AFP. The attackers reportedly arrived by motorcycle and targeted camps housing mainly members of the Daoussahak community, in and around Tinabow village and in the Tagadayat area. The community’s executive bureau blamed the Islamic State group, while a security source described the killings as retaliation for recent military operations and attacks by the Movement for the Salvation of Azawad, which is aligned with the government in Bamako. Mali has faced a security crisis since 2012 involving the army and its Russian allies, jihadist fighters, Tuareg separatist groups and criminal gangs.
