Taiwan reaffirms independence despite Trump warning

Taiwan insisted on its status as a sovereign nation after US President Donald Trump warned against a formal declaration of independence. Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te stated that Taiwan already sees itself as an independent country. Nevertheless, Taiwan is committed to maintaining the status quo with China, neither declaring independence nor uniting with it. Trump also expressed his desire to avoid conflict with Beijing regarding Taiwan's situation.
