Tanzania and Zanzibar increase their minimum wages for the public sectors to USD 192 per month

The governments of Tanzania and Zanzibar have increased their minimum wage for the public sector to 500,000 Tanzanian shillings, equivalent to USD 192 per month. This increase, announced by Zanzibar's President Hussein Ali Mwinyi, will take effect on January 1, 2027. On the mainland, the minimum wage for the public sector will also rise to 500,000 shillings, effective from July 1, 2026.
