The deterioration of the Mwenda-Kikingi road paralyses economy and security in Ruwenzori

Users of the 27-km Mwenda-Kikingi road in the Ruwenzori sector of Beni, North Kivu, are sounding the alarm over its severe deterioration, which has halted direct trade between Mutwanga and Watalinga, forcing costly detours. The New Congolese Civil Society (NSCC) warned that the road's condition also hinders security forces' mobility. Rehabilitation works that began in January 2025 are now stalled due to financial constraints.
