Thyspunt Recommended for Eskom's New Nuclear Power Station

A draft environmental scoping report has recommended Thyspunt, located between Oyster Bay and Cape St Francis, as the preferred site for Eskom's proposed 5,200MW nuclear power station. While Thyspunt is already owned by Eskom and has better access to the power grid, a heritage protection order could complicate the process, as the SA Heritage Resources Agency has declared the site a Grade I Cultural Landscape. Further studies are needed to assess the environmental and social impact of the project.
