French energy giant TotalEnergies is embroiled in a lawsuit between seven US states and the federal government after the Trump administration canceled two offshore wind farm projects. In March, TotalEnergies agreed to a $928 million deal to abandon these plans and invest in oil and gas instead. The northeastern states, including New York, sued, arguing the cancellations threaten grid reliability and climate goals. The Trump administration also canceled other wind leases, including Golden State Wind and Blue Point Wind, for over $2 billion combined.
