Trump says in 'final throes' of peace deal but at least 8 killed in Lebanon

Israeli strikes on Tyre in southern Lebanon killed at least eight people on June 9, 2026, just hours after US President Donald Trump said a peace deal with Iran was imminent. The Israeli military ordered the entire city, including the Christian quarter, to evacuate before launching the deadly attack. Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would open 'immediately upon signing' of the deal, which could come in two or three days. The escalation began with Israel's bombardment of Beirut on Sunday, followed by Iranian missiles into northern Israel and further Israeli strikes on Iran.
