World Bank warns South Africa’s digital-skills pipeline is not meeting demand

South Africa faces a growing mismatch between digital skills training and employer demand, with shortages in software development, networking, and cybersecurity despite a high unemployment rate of 33%. A World Bank report highlights a 'structural misalignment' between labor market demand and the skills produced by the education system. Of the 350 occupations classified as critical, 32 are information and communication technology (ICT) roles.
