Costa Rica minister fired for unapproved meeting with Trump in US

Costa Rican President Laura Fernandez fired Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar after he attended a US-led regional security summit with Donald Trump in New York without notifying her. Fernandez stated she should have been the one to attend the anti-cartel coalition meeting, which aims to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in the region. Tovar attended the meeting without prior notice, causing strategic harm to Costa Rica's interests. Several right-wing Latin American presidents also participated in the event, which was part of the US effort to strengthen regional action against drug cartels.
