Toxic haze from Indonesian fires chokes Malaysian Borneo

Air quality in parts of Malaysian Borneo has reached hazardous levels due to smoke from forest fires in Indonesia, leading to a surge in respiratory illnesses and the cancellation of Independence Day celebrations. Six areas in Sarawak recorded air pollutant index readings above 300, with peaks of 407 in Kuching and 408 in Serian. Residents, such as Mia Emylia Hassan, report reduced visibility and an overwhelming smell of smoke.
