Ghana: Diaspora reconnects with its roots at the Nkyinkyim Museum

Members of the African diaspora, including African Americans and descendants of communities scattered around the world, gathered for three days at the Nkyinkyim Museum in Nuhalenya, near Ada, to honor their ancestors. The ceremony remembers people whose names and stories were erased by time and slavery, through libations, offerings, songs, drumming and dancing. For participants, the trip to Ghana is a personal effort to recover their origins and reconnect with a history interrupted by the transatlantic slave trade. Museum founder Kwame Akoto-Bamfo says the initiative is led by the diaspora itself and aims to create a space to reflect on identities transformed by slavery and colonization.
