The Security Barometer Reports an Intensification of Armed Activism in Eastern DRC in August

In August, the number of armed clashes in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo increased to 118 incidents, with 56 attributed to the rebel group AFC-M23. This group took control of 22 new villages, mainly in the territories of Masisi and Kalehe, and is responsible for the deaths of 60 civilians. In Ituri, the ADF remains the deadliest group, with 14 attacks resulting in 72 deaths. Regular forces were also responsible for 15 civilian deaths in August.
