UCDA demolishes shanties in Umuahia, says they were hideouts for criminals

The Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) demolished unapproved shops and shanties in Isiama Afaraukwu, Abia State. General Manager Kingsley Agomoh said some structures were hideouts for criminals and drug peddlers. Owners were served notices on March 17 and April 17, 2026, before the demolition on Tuesday. Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu denied involvement in the operation.
