Rising Fish Prices: Assalé Tiémoko Says Côte d’Ivoire Relies on Imports for 88.8% of Its Fish

ADCI president Assalé Tiémoko says Côte d’Ivoire relies on imports for 88.8% of its fish needs. The country reportedly imports about 732,000 tonnes annually, including 532,000 tonnes of fish commonly bought by lower-income households, while domestic production is between 82,000 and 92,000 tonnes. The figures come amid protests by fish sellers over rising prices, including Apolo, which rose from 19,000 to 35,000 CFA francs, and Sosso, which increased from 18,000 to 46,000 CFA francs.
