Ukraine reclaims territory as it doubles attacks on Russian logistics

Ukraine said it reclaimed more territory than it lost in May 2026, reversing a Russian trend of monthly net gains. Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskii reported a net gain of about 100 sq km, while Militarnyi and the Institute for the Study of War estimated higher gains of 120 sq km and 280 sq km respectively. However, Russian forces advanced into eastern Kostiantynivka in Donetsk, now holding about 13% of the city. Russian President Vladimir Putin has prioritized capturing the remaining Donetsk territory, but his deadlines have been repeatedly missed.
