In Ghana Town, a ‘stateless’ future for hundreds born and raised in Gambia

In Ghana Town, a fishing village in The Gambia, about 850 of the 900 residents live without official identity documents. Marie Mensah, a mother of four, explains that the lack of documents makes it nearly impossible for her children to enroll in free public schools, forcing them to attend private schools instead. Residents of Ghana Town wake up each day with uncertainty about their legal belonging to the only country they have ever known.
