New trial over football great Maradona’s death begins in Argentina

A new trial regarding the death of Diego Maradona has begun in Argentina, a year after the first trial collapsed due to a scandal involving a judge. Maradona died in November 2020 at the age of 60 from heart failure and acute pulmonary edema, two weeks after undergoing surgery. Seven members of his medical team are charged with negligent homicide, and the trial will hear from about 120 witnesses to determine their responsibility in his death.
