A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines on June 8, 2026, killing at least 12 people and injuring over 200. The epicenter was southwest of Maasim town in Sarangani province, at a depth of 33 km. General Santos City suffered significant damage with seven deaths and collapsed buildings. Rescuers are searching for students trapped in a school and seven people are missing.
