Rights group sues South African government over US arms exports

The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) has filed a court case against the South African government to suspend arms export permits to the United States. It argues that the National Conventional Arms Control Committee (NCACC) may have failed to apply the legal standards that require refusing permits if arms exports could contribute to human rights violations or undermine international peace. Respondents include the South African president, defence minister, and NCACC chairperson. The government has not yet responded publicly.
