Upper Iweka under bridge: How Police sacked criminals, mounted extortion checkpoints

The Upper Iweka bridge in Onitsha, once a haven for criminals, is now relatively secure due to efforts from successive governments. However, motorists are complaining about illegal activities by police who, after displacing criminals, have turned checkpoints into extortion points. Police officers are reportedly demanding amounts ranging from N200,000 to N500,000 under the guise of checking vehicle documents, even when they are complete.
