US Embassy, Consulate shut down operations in Nigeria for Juneteenth holiday

The United States Mission in Nigeria announced the temporary closure of its Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos on Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day. Routine visa appointments, passport services, and other non-emergency consular operations will be affected. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, observed annually on June 19, and was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021 under President Joe Biden.
