US President Donald Trump has delayed the confirmation of his nominee for director of national intelligence (DNI), Jay Clayton, and kept acting DNI Bill Pulte in the role. Trump cited his desire to pressure Democrats to pass a controversial surveillance law (FISA) and a voter identification measure. Clayton was scheduled for a Senate confirmation hearing on Wednesday but Trump prevented him from appearing. Pulte, a Trump loyalist with no intelligence experience, remains acting DNI.
