The Niger State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew following protests over the death of 37 suspected illegal miners. Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago announced that the curfew takes effect immediately after Juma’at prayers on Friday. The miners, who were arrested for alleged illegal mining activities, were found dead in custody, prompting an investigation ordered by the state police commissioner, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman.
