Aboisso: 450,000 tonnes of oil palm residues converted into electricity each year

The BIOVEA biomass plant, commissioned on November 5, 2026, in Ayébo in the Aboisso department, will use nearly 450,000 tonnes of oil palm residues each year. With an installed capacity of 46 MW, it is expected to feed 336 GWh of electricity into the grid annually, equivalent to the needs of about 1.7 million people. Supplied in part by PALMCI and local producers, the plant is expected to benefit more than 12,000 growers and create over 1,000 permanent direct and indirect jobs. The project required an investment of more than 150 billion CFA francs.

Grid instability did not cause IE Band A outages, TCN says

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says grid instability did not cause the Ikeja Electric (IE) Band A outages reported on Nov. 3 and 4. TCN communications chief Ndidi Mba said the 2023 Electricity Act assigns the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), not distribution companies, responsibility for determining the causes of grid disruptions. NISO attributed lower power generation to gas supply constraints at thermal plants and reduced hydroelectric output, cutting the energy allocated to distributors. TCN records showed interruptions were mainly linked to low-generation load shedding, faults or allocation non-compliance on IE’s network, and planned maintenance—not TCN equipment failures.
