Vegetable oil policy in crisis as imports dominate- Producers lament

Vegetable oil producers in Nigeria, represented by Okey Ikoro, Chairman of the Vegetable/Edible Oil Producers Association of Nigeria (VEOPAN), are alarmed by the continued dominance of imported brands despite government prohibition measures. They report that over 100 imported oil brands flood the local market, threatening investments and discouraging backward integration. Ikoro attributes this failure to the lack of enforcement of bans by government agencies, resulting in significant losses for local companies.
