An armed gang with crude weapons attacked Chemelil Sugar Academy in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, Kenya, on June 18, 2026, injuring four people and stealing about Ksh12,000 in cash and more than ten mobile phones. The gang of over 20 suspects assaulted staff and escaped into nearby sugarcane plantations. Principal Abisai Samora reported the incident to police. The injured are receiving treatment at Nyang'oma Sub-County Hospital. The motive is unknown, but the school has been involved in a dispute over the leasing of Chemelil Sugar Factory. Police have launched investigations and a manhunt.
