2026 Amended Finance Bill: Former Minister Abdourahmane Sarr responds to Parliament's rejection

After the National Assembly rejected the 2026 amended finance bill, former Economy Minister Abdourahmane Sarr praised the democratic debate in a post on X on November 3. He called for a credible financing strategy and greater transparency in public finances, saying Senegal should establish the true state of its economy through its own institutions. Sarr challenged the bill’s public investment forecast: after 1,031 billion CFA francs had been executed by the end of September 2026, reaching the projected 2,249 billion would require spending 1,218 billion in the final three months. He added that the IMF does not represent the interests of the Senegalese people, a responsibility he said belongs to national institutions.
