Ivorian justice: Abidjan Court of Appeal reports 7,792 rulings and raises concerns over judicial delays

At the opening of the 2026–2027 judicial year, Abidjan Court of Appeal president Dembélé Tahirou reported that the court issued 7,792 rulings in 2025–2026, 1,084 more than the previous year, an increase of 16.16%. The tally included 1,932 civil decisions, 1,139 labor rulings and 2,254 criminal appeals. Prosecutor General Sori Naye Henriette condemned prolonged pretrial detention and urged judges, court registries and prisons to speed up the handling of cases. She also argued that judicial delays cannot be attributed solely to a lack of resources and called for better court organization.

They also accuse authorities of failing to adequately monitor COMMUS, which is controlled by Zijin Mining, and enforce environmental laws.
