South Africa: supplier Eskom ventures into renewable energy

South Africa's state-owned electricity supplier Eskom launched a new division, Eskom Green, to develop large-scale renewable energy projects. The goal is to achieve 32 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2040. Eskom Green will initially operate within Eskom Holdings before becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary with an independent board. The company still supplies most of South Africa's electricity from coal-fired power plants.
