FG steps up efforts to curb illicit arms proliferation in Nigeria

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), under the Office of the National Security Adviser, has stepped up efforts to curb illicit arms proliferation in Nigeria. Director-General Johnson Kokumo made a three-day working visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, to strengthen partnerships. Kokumo stated that stronger cooperation among institutions would reduce illegal weapons circulation and that the federal government has empowered the centre to prosecute arms traffickers. The centre was established by an Act of the National Assembly in 2024.
