Anthropic warns of AI’s ‘catastrophic risks’ ahead of blockbuster share listing

In a filing ahead of its planned US stock market debut, Anthropic warned that advanced AI systems could pose “catastrophic or existential risks” to humanity if deployed without adequate safeguards and oversight. Anthropic reported losses of more than $80.7bn in the first half of the year, alongside $112.4bn in cash and equivalents and $16.3bn in revenue. Its expected valuation could surpass SpaceX’s initial $1.8tn listing valuation, while rival OpenAI is also planning a listing, reportedly early next year.
