Africa Takes the Helm in Global Ocean Negotiations

The 11th Our Ocean Conference opened in Mombasa, Kenya, from June 16 to 18, 2026, under the theme 'Our Ocean, Our Heritage, Our Future', marking the first time the summit is held in Africa. Since 2014, the conference has generated over 2,900 commitments worth US$169 billion. Speakers such as Betsy Njagi, Cynthia Barzuna, and John Kerry emphasized the need to turn commitments into concrete actions for ocean health.
