Eskom's shift to an independent grid not a guarantee of cheap power

Eskom's restructuring in South Africa is entering a decisive phase with the creation of an independent transmission operator aimed at strengthening competition. However, the promise of cheaper and more reliable electricity is not guaranteed, and questions remain about who will pay for this separation. The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has warned that restructuring does not automatically lead to lower tariffs.
