Denied the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Omar Artan will referee the UEFA Super Cup

Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, who was turned away in Miami on June 6 and denied the 2026 World Cup, has been appointed by UEFA to officiate the UEFA Super Cup on August 12 in Salzburg between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa. Held for eleven hours in a detention cell and then sent back to Turkey, he had a valid visa according to Somali authorities. The appointment, praised by UEFA and CAF presidents, comes under a cooperation agreement between the two bodies.
