Presidential Election in Benin: ECOWAS Deems the Vote Credible Despite Irregularities

The ECOWAS electoral observation mission, led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, stated that the April 12, 2026 election took place in a calm atmosphere, despite some irregularities. Although anomalies such as early openings of polling stations and attempts at ballot stuffing were reported, they did not significantly affect the overall integrity of the vote. Voter turnout was deemed relatively acceptable in a context of competition limited to two candidate pairs.
