In Cameroon, the trade deficit worsens in 2025 (+23%) despite the promotion of import substitution

In 2025, Cameroon's trade deficit reached 2145.2 billion FCFA, marking a 22.8% increase compared to 2024. This deterioration is attributed to a decrease in export revenues by 168.1 billion FCFA and an increase in import expenditures by 229.8 billion FCFA. Excluding crude oil, the deficit amounts to 2850.9 billion FCFA, further worsening the situation despite the import substitution policy implemented since 2022.
