Niakara: Elephants Disrupt Traffic and Drive Farmers Away from Their Fields

A herd of elephants disrupted traffic on National Road A3 near Kouroukouna in Niakara department on September 29, 2026. The repeated presence of elephants is causing farmers to avoid their fields out of fear of encounters with the animals, threatening their crops. On September 5, a farmer was seriously injured while trying to chase an elephant from his farm. The Ministry of Water and Forests reminds the public that elephants are protected species and urges people not to provoke the animals.
