Inside Momo Cissé’s interrogation: how investigators cornered the commentator

Arrested by the Special Cybersecurity Division over the alleged spread of false news, commentator Mamadou “Momo” Cissé was referred to the prosecutor and granted provisional release; he is due to stand trial Wednesday before Dakar’s flagrante delicto court. During questioning, he admitted that he made a viral video broadcast on Sen Teranga Tv on October 12 about Mariama Ba, known as Nourah. He said he had not witnessed her arrest and relied on rumors and claims from a purported cousin without checking her identity or credibility. Cissé also acknowledged having no medical evidence for the alleged police violence or surgery mentioned in the video, and said he did not know police had initially intervened to protect Nourah Ba from an angry crowd.
